1927-D Peace Silver Dollar Lustrous Choice BU in Vintage Blanchard Slab Semi Key

Tough Date, 1927-D Peace Dollar in a nice Choice BU Grade housed in a very scarcely seen Blanchard Slab

Original Surfaces and thick luster give this tough date excellent eye appeal.

At the time Blanchard Gold and Silver were slabbing coins, the hobby basically used 3 Uncirculated grades ending in zero, three and five. Once in a blue moon you might see an uncirculated coin with a grade ending in a 7, representing ultra-superb gem, but these were unicorns seen far and few between. The opinion stamped on the label here would lead one to clunclude it was better than a “zero” but not quite a “three” which I would agree with. In my opinion, the smart money would be on “two” if it were to be submitted based on today’s strict grading standards

Blanchard Gold and Silver was formed in 1975 and is still in business today.

Blanchard was active only from 1986 through 1989 slabbing their own coins. The shell was licensed from and designed by Alan Hager. They licensed from ACG (Accugrade) the use of their slab design. There are a couple of different rear label styles. These slabs aren’t seen very often. Generally grading was fairly accurate. Blanchard’s license to use the Accugrade patented slab design expired in 1989, and it was at that time that Blanchard stopped slabbing coins.
