1899-S Morgan Silver Dollar Key Date in 1980s Blanchard Slab MS60+ – Lustrous Choice BU

Tough to find in Mint State, this 1899-S Morgan Silver Dollar resides in a late 1980’s old Blanchard slab graded MS60+

Ahh the days of conservative grading! Back at the onset of Third Party Grading, or even just before the birth of PCGS, ANA grading standards seldom used more than 3 mint state grades and they ended in zero (0), three (3) and five(5). Once in a great while, you would see a coin graded with a 7 on the end but that was a unicorn.

Blanchard Gold and Silver was formed in 1975 and is still in business today.

Blanchard was active only from 1986 through 1989 slabbing their own coins. The shell was licensed from and designed by Alan Hager. They licensed from ACG (Accugrade) the use of their slab design. There are a couple of different rear label styles. These slabs aren’t seen very often. Generally grading was fairly accurate. Blanchard’s license to use the Accugrade patented slab design expired in 1989, and it was at that time that Blanchard stopped slabbiung coins.
