1883-S GSA Morgan Silver Dollar PCGS AU55 – Super Rare Top Pop Very Few Known

With every great coin comes a great story and history.

This is an 1883-S GSA Soft Pack Morgan Silver Dollar that has been graded by PCGS as PCGS AU55.

Exceedingly RARE. Only 12 of these are documented and that is on the NGC website in the NGC census. PCGS, ANACS, Greysheet all have no records on this date. As far as I know, mine is the only one graded at PCGS (PCGS AU55). I can confirm 12 have been graded by NGC ranging from G6 to a single AU58. There is also a single AU55, two AU53, one AU50, one AU Details, two XF40, one F15, two VG8, and last but not least (or maybe it is least), a single G6 round out the twelve coins.

The original soft pack this coin came in, partial packaging is shown in the pictures and is included with the sale of this coin.  That is, namely the GSA Token and a small piece of the original packaging. The packaging had a cut in it and PCGS would not holder the original soft pack package in a PCGS Oversized Holder, but, PCGS did confirm they could and would holder it with the GSA label on the slab!

 When the coin originally came back from PCGS, they forgot to label it as GSA! I had to contact them, explain what happened, and since they returned the original opened packaging and have their own archived documeted history of this coin having been extracted by PCGS along with the whole thing being on video backup, they were able to confirm the authenticty of this being a GSA coin, and PCGS agreed to remedy the situation, i.e. fix the label and reholder the coin, at no charge, which they did. Kudos to PCGS!

The 1883-S GSA is exceptionally rare. It is so rare it is not even listed on Greysheet as a GSA date. It is also not listed on PCGS Coin Facts as a known GSA Date. Most other dates for GSA Morgan Dollars, both Soft and Hard Packs do have a documented listing on both Greysheet and PCGS

NGC appears to have the only directory for the 1883-S and there are none, zero, hard packs. Only 12 1883-S GSA Morgan Dollars, all Soft Packs are documented . There is a lone AU58 which is top pop followed by a lone AU55

The other ten (10) are graded AU53 (2), AU50 (1), AU Details (1), XF40 (2); F15 (1); VG8 (2); G6 (1)

As can be seen, the 1883-S GSA Morgan Dollar is an extreme rarity.

Checking PCGS, my AU55 is the only one graded by PCGS which makes it a top pop and that means between NGC and PCGS, a grand total of 13 exist and of those 13, 1 is G6, 2 are VG8, 1 is F15, 2 are XF40, 1 is AU Detail, 1 is AU50, 2 are AU53, 1 is AU55 and 1 is AU58. 

These do not come available for sale very often – years can go by before seeing another comes up

I have attached much documentation here as proof and resources to validate the info. Included are screenshot emails between me and PCGS  support (Isidro G Customer Support Specialist). Also attached is the NGC Census report on 1883-S GSA Population as well as screenshots of the Greysheet and PCGS Database. As you can see, both list GSA Hard Pack and Soft Packs for known dates, not just Carson City coins. There are many other even scarce dates listed such as 1884-S Soft Pack or 1883-P and 1883-O Hard and Soft Pack. If you scroll through all of PCGS Coin facts and/or Greysheet, you will see them all. 

What you wont see is any data for 1883-S. Why?

Because the 1883-S GSA is EXCEEDINGLY RARE!
