1879 Morgan Silver Dollar PCGS MS64 Tougher Philly Date Beautiful Toning *COLOR*

The 1879 Philadelphia issue has always been an under rated sleeper issue particularly in higher grades. Even finding MS63 examples can prove elusive and challenging. Often the luster is weak and there are loads of contact marks. Strike can be mushy as well. For all these reasons, we see fare fewer graded above MS63 than we see for the common 1879-S, 1880-S and 1881-S coins. It’s about 8 to 1 in fact. In MS64 and higher this coin gets much tougher to find. Values double or more than double from MS64 to MS65 making MS64 an ideal collector grade (if you can find one with strong eye appeal).

This coin was originally purchased by me in 2022 in a double sized Auugrade (ACG) MS65 holder. I still think it is very close, if not fully MS65 or gem level, but I can live with it bein a PCGS MS64 as I prefer conservative over loose anyway.
