1991 Small Date China Panda 10 Yuan .999 Silver PCGS MS70 – Very Tough Pop 14

Here we have a very tough coin, the 1991 Small Date China Panda graded PCGS MS70 back in 2024. 

Back in the fall of 2022 I was fortunate enough to purchase two (2) uncut sheets of Ten (10) 1991 Small Date 10 Yuan Silver Pandas in their Unopened OGP (see the last 2 pictures for reference.

I submitted the first uncut sheet as is to PCGS in early 2023 and all ten coins came back PCGS MS69

I submitted the 2nd sheet in mid 2024 and Eight (8) coins came back MS69 again and two (2) were graded MS70.

At the time the population for those had been steady for a long time at 11. The two coins I submitted drove the population to a whopping 13. Since then, it appears one more has made the grade as the current population stands at 14 coins graded PCGS MS70. The population of MS69 coins is 195 and there are another 109 coins graded between MS64 and MS68

My guess, is one of those that I sold that was graded MS69 was likely cracked and resubmitted where it received the coveted 70 grade. I do not know if that is what happened but considering this coin does not come up for sale all that often in any grade, and I added 18 of them in PCGS MS69 over the last 2+ years, there is a good chance that is what happened

I thought I would never sell this one as I sold the first of the 2 coins graded MS70 last year, but I unfortunately it is time to say good bye and pass it on to the next custodian.

Goregous coin with excellent black and white contrast, superb luster and pretty much flawless surfaces with no milk spots or other defects or nuisances to point out. Absolute perfection
